Check the Smudge

On September 17, 1787 — the very day the Constitution was signed — the population represented by each House member was reduced from 1:40,000 to 1:30,000. The smudge on the original document where the number was changed is still visible today.

George Washington argued for the change, concerned that we would lose any sense of control over our government, and the Convention unanimously agreed.

That was the low end of the ratio. So stated, it was high time for them all to just go home. Article the First was left for the first sitting Congress to define the high end — for what would become the Bill of Rights.

The arbitrary number of 435 representatives has nothing to do with it. Ready to finally implement what they intended? #28thAmendment #MissingFirst #SaveAmerica
